The petrol engine of mild hybrid vehicles is accompanied by a more powerful battery (compared with a non-hybrid vehicle), an electric motor and part of the on-board electric network energised at 48 V. This enables the car to switch off the combustion engine entirely, for example, when it is travelling at low speed. This supports driving in selected situations, for example at low speed.

To commute to work in the city in silence and comfort, use the electric drive. For longer business trips, out-of-town excursions or holidays, you’ll appreciate the petrol engine and tank with a range of up to several hundred kilometres.

The Škoda plug-in hybrid models offer three additional modes to take full advantage of all the iV's capabilities. The E-mode powers the car purely with electricity. In Hybrid mode, the electronics automatically regulate the interaction between the petrol engine and the electric motor. If you select the Sport mode, the car offers you a maximum power.

Hybrid vehicles also recover some of their energy through brake energy regeneration. The special B regime activates brake energy regeneration whenever the accelerator is released, thereby braking the vehicle. Energy is then stored back in the batteries and reused during the journey.

A plug-in hybrid’s battery can be charged by the internal combustion engine itself to the required level without the need to stop the car and plug it into the mains. Alternatively, it can be charged from the mains after attaching an AC charging cable to an ordinary power socket or a more powerful Škoda Charger.
