ŠKODA is the most successful brand in the AUTO BILD car magazine’s company car awards 2019 in Germany: the Czech car manufacturer came out on top with no less than four of its model ranges. The SUPERB was voted best mid-size car, the OCTAVIA is the best compact car, the KAROQ lifted ŠKODA to the top of the SUV segment and the FABIA shines as the favourite small car for professionals. All of the aforementioned models were voted best import car in their respective category.

AUTO BILD readers were asked to vote online for their favourites in seven categories by 8 September 2019. According to the German Federal Motor Transport Authority, the nominees were vehicles that recorded the most new registrations in the first six months of 2019.

Small cars used commercially are primarily found in urban areas and have to be particularly practical, agile and efficient. The ŠKODA FABIA prevailed in this category, having been voted the favourite amongst its fellow import company car nominees. Its advantages include its generous and versatile interior space, the particularly high level of comfort-enhancing equipment for its segment, useful accessories and its conservative fuel consumption.

Compact cars are particularly popular amongst professionals who spend a lot of time on the road. The OCTAVIA is ŠKODA’s centrepiece and bestselling model range. In its third generation, the car combines a generous amount of space, a high level of functionality, numerous safety and comfort features as well as great value for money to create a harmonious overall package. The readers could not agree more with this, hence why they voted the OCTAVIA the best compact import car.

In the SUV segment, the ŠKODA KAROQ took first place amongst the import models. A spacious interior and ultra-modern optional extras such as the Virtual Cockpit are convincing arguments for the compact SUV.

A car must not only feature the attributes required for an office on wheels, it must also offer state-of-the-art technology at the very best prices – that’s why the ŠKODA SUPERB is the perfect car for a line manager or boss. Plenty of space for passengers and luggage as well as modern assistance systems spoke for the SUPERB, which was voted best import model in the mid-size car segment. Since May 2019, ŠKODA’s comprehensively revised flagship has also scored points with new technologies such as Predictive Cruise Control and Side Assist, as well as with its upgraded interior. What’s more, ŠKODA now also offers the SUPERB – the company’s first model in its history – as a plug-in hybrid.

From an initial field of 29 new cars launched on the international markets during the past twelve months, the ŠKODA OCTAVIA made it into the final. This is where the seven remaining models are presented to an international expert jury, with 60 motoring journalists from 23 European countries casting their votes. The annual award was first established in 1964. The “2021 Car of the Year” will be announced on 1 March. In the last quarter of 2020, the OCTAVIA already succeeded in collecting renowned awards in the key export markets of the UK, Austria, Germany and Switzerland.

ŠKODA AUTO has been presented with the Pioneer Award for its use of artificial intelligence in vehicle diagnostics. At this year’s CONNECTED CAR Awards, the trade magazines Auto Bild and Computer Bild chose ŠKODA’s Sound Analyser app as the winner of the editorial prize reserved for particularly innovative ideas. Using a smartphone or tablet, the noises a car makes while in operation can be recorded and compared with stored sound patterns. On this basis, the software can quickly and reliably detect if the vehicle in question requires any maintenance.
