The Škoda 1200 model represented a great change. The four-door vehicle with its all-metal body noticeably rounded in shape, with a 1221 cc capacity, 36 horsepower engine was manufactured from 1952 and with utility bodies as a van, an STW (estate wagon), pick-up and ambulance.
In 1955 the vehicle, known to motorists as the Sedan, received new a intake manifold, a down-draft carburettor and was also newly identified as the 1201.
After the launch of a new personal vehicle called the Spartak the 1201 was chiefly manufactured in its utility versions and its manufacturer was gradually transferred to the Vrchlabí plant. The modernised 1202 model was manufactured until 1973!
