In 1959 all personal Škodas received a new front axle with coil springs and telescopic shock absorbers and were introduced as new models.
The Škoda 440 became the Octavia (Octavia as in the eighth in the construction line after the Second World War), the 445 became the Octavia Super model and the 450 sporting model became the Felicia (felicitas meaning luck in Latin).
In time an Octavia Touring Sport with an engine from the Felicia (50 hp) and in 1961 also the Felicia Super and Octavia 1200 Touring Sport (both models with a 55 hp engine) were added.
The last in the range was the very popular Octavia Estate; with many modernisations it remained in production until 1971!
